Lately, I find myself yearning to create physical beauty. I want to sit and paint. I want to sit and draw. I want to experience the world in a different way.
I don’t have a lot of experience, skill or time but I claim my right to create.
My experience will grow as I paint. My skill may improve or not but so be it.
Most important, I will answer the call to create that is simmering inside me.
Being a practical person, I put my “hobbies” aside until my work is done. I think it is time for a reordering of my day.
Yes, the work must be completed.
Yes, time is an issue but I know I can find slivers of time here and there where I can sketch the roses in my garden or prepare a canvas for a late afternoon session.
I thank my fellow bloggers who share their creative works. You have inspired me!
After my Husband died, I found that I lost confidence in many areas of my life. Painting and playing the piano were two of my favorite activities that fell off the radar. I sold my piano but I kept my easel, a few blank canvases, a couple of sketchbooks and some pencils. Enough to begin again.
The days are long now in the Pacific Northwest. If you are searching for me, look on the left bank of the Willamette or most likely in my backyard.
I’ll be the woman lost in painting or sketching. Look for a large shaggy dog most likely asleep at my feet.
I probably won’t hear you approach or see you wave.
You’ll know it’s me by the serenity on my face.
This is so beautiful and says so much about you. I have so many insecurities and I feel so dependent on my husband, at times. I’m so sorry about the loss of your husband. I can only imagine how difficult it’s been. But it makes me smile to know you’re using your talents and skills in a way that brings out the beauty in you and others. I’m thankful our blogs have crossed. I look forward to our future blogging friendship. Thanks so much for sharing this!😃

Thank you for your warm and insightful reply. Counting on each other in a marriage is what it’s all about. Losing a spouse can throw us into a tailspin. Fortunately, with the help of family and friends we begin to sort it out. One of my goals in blogging is to point the way as best I can to other widows through sharing my journey. I am glad to count you as a friend in my larger world of blogging. We are all in this life together. Hugs, Lori

Beautifully stated. I find my self with the same yearnings these days Lorraine. I’m learning to create through photography (crazy new camera, way above my expertise) I’m sewing again, which I love, and working with some crayon and pencil art. It’s a going to be a lovely new season I’m sure!
My order is different than yours. I get up and spend time with God then spend a little time creating before delving into the mundane work. I find it makes all things better throughout the day, and if I’m lucky, I carve out time before the sun sets to create anew!

It is so good to read that you are in a place where you can embrace your creativity and allow yourself to explore and nurture it. It’s so sad that sometimes it takes loss and pain to bring us to a place where we are able to do that. Enjoy. Learn and grow and enjoy the processes (and the results too, I’m sure). Cheers, Su.

Lori, this is so touching. I’m glad you are finding your creative outlet. No one needs to “have talent” or “be experienced” in order to be creative. Fulfilling the inner need to explore your creative impulses is everything you need for success, as success will be the journey you’ll make while exploring this new skill.

Yeah! Have a wonderful season and be creative in ‘whatever’. I found such joy for a time with adult colouring books. amazed me! Lots and lots of different coloured pencils and paints etc. Anything beads, etc etc. Wonderful pictures as backgrounds and colour to ‘fill em in’. Other than that a blank canvas and WOW~!. Go indeed with your inner calling. Let the expression of beauty nourish your whole person. Please advise later what eventuates.

I can relate to so much in this post. I absolutely thrive on creativity. I’m not an academic; not especially sporty; and not great with the latest technology. But anything that involves creativity and imagination is definitely my thing.
Of course some of these artistic endeavours such as writing or music requires practice, perseverance, and dedication in order to improve our craft but admittedly I don’t always have the time or motivation. 😊
I plan to turn the basement of my new home into a craft room and that will be my happy place!
Hope your art continues to bring you happiness 😊

(I am pushy that way…LOL) some time aside for just you, whether its painting, sitting and looking at the clouds, or whatever makes you happy, its so important for your inner child, inner soul, the happy spot inside you….I used to come last forever in my life, kids, job, husband, now I am put myself first…then I know I make everyone even happier when I am centered and at peace…..love to see some of your paintings….at this time I am doing gardening and making my beauty in my yard….have a fantastic evening my friend…kat

I love the image of you finding your ‘you’ again in creative pursuits. I do believe that allowing our creativity ‘out’ is how we find our way. I visualized you, the painter, with shaggy dog by your feet. It’s a lovely image.
