I Could Have Felt Sorry for Myself…

There was no Christmas tree.

No mistletoe.

No twinkling lights.

No Christmas dinner.

Not fruitcake nor eggnog.

I had only one present and that was one I did not want!

Santa brought me a respiratory infection.  I don’t think that was on my list.

The gift that keeps on giving.  I was down and out for weeks.

Doing Drugs

At first I resisted going to the doctor as I did not want to be medicated.

Also, I thought I could shake it off.

After many sleepless nights, I was desperate for  relief.

I went to urgent care and the doctor loaded me up with prescription drugs.

So many in fact, that I had to write down when to take them and with food or no food.

A word of gratitude for the medical system.  I saw the doctor at 8 A.M.  Later that same day, my prescription drugs were filled and I was back at home resting.

Today is the first day in weeks that I have felt close to normal.  Yet I am taking it easy and finishing my prescriptions.  I am not out of the woods yet!

Kind Friends

My friends did check on me with offers of food and help.

One friend sent over a wonderful dinner from her Christmas Eve Party so at least there was some healthy food in my refrigerator.

Another friend came over with her granddaughter who gave me an ornament for my poor little bare tree.  An earlier gift of homemade brownies was much appreciated too.

Ginny, my Goldendoodle was content to sleep by the couch or bed while I slept.

So, even though I was sick, I was loved and cared for which is truly the best gift of all.

Happy Holidays!

  1. It’s terrible to be sick anytime, but at the holidays, it’s an even more daunting distress. You’re suffering from personal worries as well. I’m glad to know you’re feeling better and especially pleased to know you have a community around you offering help. Wishing you health in the New Year, Lori.

  2. So sorry to hear you’ve been ill. My mother gets pneumonia repeatedly so we have learned to get help as soon as any cold goes to her chest. Thankfully her latest bout was over just before Christmas. We are so lucky to have modern medicines. Best wishes with your recovery Lori. karen xx

  3. And aren’t we lucky to have modern medicine!? Hope you’re feeling better, Lori. So many people have been sick this winter and they keep spreading it around. Hard to escape the germs. But better weather ahead should send those germs into exile soon. Hope your New Year is a happy one.

  4. So sorry to hear this Lori. I do hope you are truly stronger every day. Thank God you could still remember the birthday of our Saviour and appreciate the love of those around you. All the other stuff is so beautiful and I certainly LOVE IT. But, when the times are rugged remembering His Birthday does restore our souls if we believe. Hope 2019 will dawn for you with New Hope and New possibilities. Love F.

  5. To my dearest Lori,

I have read this blog numerous times since I first read it. I experience your words and feelings in many different ways. You are wonderful, kind and very caring and a very beautiful woman inside and out.

Now it is New Years, a time for happiness and sharing. The next two days are to be lived without any thoughts of work, only caring and sharing, fun and laughter. May your heart be filled with joy.

    Love for ever.

  6. I am foster caring for 2 little girls right now (3 and 11 months). Long story but as they are an estranged family member’s children who is a mess at the moment. Anyway, I have had them for almost 5 months and we have been at Urgent Care multiple times with respiratory issues and yes, I was sick along with my children and the girls over Christmas. I think mine is caused by not enough rest. Glad you are feeling better and here’s to a happy healthy New Year!! Tina
