Losing my sweet dog

I have not wanted to write this post.

Writing the words would make it true.

There is no escaping that my sweet Ginny is gone.

Eight days after my post  Loving an old dog she collapsed and died.

Probably a  heart attack.  Possibly a stroke.

It doesn’t matter.  She is gone.

My sweet Ginny

She was always with me patiently waiting in the car while I ran errands, going on walks, strolling though Home Depot, sunning herself on the patio and, in the last few months, sleeping by the fire.

I miss that sweet face, that wagging tail, her big head resting in my lap.

I miss hugging her and talking to her.

I miss taking care of her.

I miss her.

  4. They just know how to be a part of you. A big smiling, wagging, licking bundle of joy, and a character just right.
    She will always be a part of you, as you are to her Lori. And she will be waiting at the Gates, wagging that great tail as you make your entrance, because love never dies ❤️ 💜 💓 💗 💖 🙏🏽 🌹 🌈

  6. Oh Lori my heart grieves with you. The loss of a well-loved animal is a raw grief as real as every other loss. I have always believed that with regard to the love of a dog for a master and the love of a master for a dog the saying, ‘It is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.’.is real. A dog’s life is known to be short as far as years are concerned but the memories and the love shared can be life long and priceless. I hope you have golden memories and these will indeed sustain.   7. I’m so sorry for your loss Lori but am glad that Ginny went quickly and you were spared the difficult decision of having to have her put to sleep. I like to think that she has joined her friends and is now running around free of all aches and pains.

  8. Close friends come in all shapes and sizes. My little friend Kushie has been gone for 12 years but I’ve never forgotten him. His rose lives on. Your Ginny will be with you always. The hurt will pass. -hugs-

  9. Oh I am so sorry for your loss Lori! The presence of your fur friend, the warm body and breath of another living being nearby, connected to you by a special bond of companionship…I can imagine how much you miss her. I hope you will find yourself another furry bundle to love ❤

  12. Of course, my “like” translates to 😢😢😢
    I’m so sorry, losing a dog is so much more devastating than losing any other pet. I know someone will give me crap for that, but it’s true…the quality of a dog’s companionship is just so different from any other animals. I’m sad to know that your Ginny is gone.

  13. Anyone with dogs in their family will feel your pain, Lori. One of our spaniels (Ruby) is almost 13, deaf, arthritic, lumpy, and beginning to pee in the house accidentally. We know “the writing is on the wall” but it’s hard to go through the decision making time again. It’s not our first rodeo. At least you have a small consolation in that Ginny went quickly, if it had to happen. I know you will miss Ginny terribly. Our dogs are part of our family. My heart goes out to you.

  15. I so so feel you, Lori. The pain of losing a pet is like no other and it takes a real while before you get used to the fact that they wont be around anymore. I can’t offer anything just my words in such a time. I am here to talk and listen to you.

  20. I’m so sorry to read about this recent loss of Ginny. She was a lucky dog to have you, as you were lucky to have her:) I remember only too well how painful these days of adjustment can be and hope that each day will be a bit easier for you.

  25. Although it’s been a few weeks since you lost your sweet dog, I only found your blog now and it caught my eye because I’ve been there a few times in my life. When our pets leave us, we miss them forever! I’m so sorry that you must endure this heartbreak.

    I currently have a vibrant playful 13 year old mini poodle and I try so very hard to not think about when one day I will have to say goodbye to her…hopefully not for another 5 years.
    She changed my life completely 13 years ago! Because of her, I launched a dog care business when she was a puppy of which I am still successfully operating and from which she has made long time best friends as a result. I can’t imagine waking up to a workday or any day without her.
