A bit of serendipity

Tonight I watched “Fat Man and Little Boy” a 1989 drama about the development of the atomic bomb during World War II.

Although interesting and thought provoking, the subject of the movie disturbed me.

Afterwards, I needed a break from thinking about atom bombs, war and moral issues.

I turned to reading to ease my mind.

I grew up reading The Prophet by Khalil Gibran.  I attended weddings where the bride and groom recited vows that incorporated quotes from The Prophet.  When I picked up my worn copy I knew I would find something calming and inspirational.

I found this quote which served me well as an antidote to a movie about war.

The chemist who can extract from his heart’s elements, compassion, respect, longing, patience, regret, surprise, and forgiveness and compound them into one can create that atom which is called love. –Khalil Gibran

A welcome bit of serendipity.

Peace to all,

Lori

  1. Thank you. I am not familiar with the person you have quoted but certainly appreciate the heart of the words. I myself in these days like to reflect on the Christian Bible love verses 1 corinthians 13. The Gits from God are LOVE, JOY , PEACE, PATIENCE, COMPASSION and KINDNESS, But the greatest Gift of all is LOVE. (my personal comment here would be…LOVE because it is eternal comes from the very heart of God. He IS Love, (All the bombs and mayhem of this world will never destroy that which is eternal.)Stay safe! blessings!
