This is tough at times…

I used to love blogging. It was creative. It was a way to communicate with people.

It was fun and satisfying.

At present, I am struggling to learn how to use the new WordPress site.

I took a class yesterday which was full of great information and how-to’s. However, the pace of the class was too fast.

I need to spend time studying and experimenting with the new features.

Having to work so hard to blog is frustrating and counter to why I blog.

I know, that with time and effort, it will get easier.

For now, it feels like a chore.

  1. Let’s see, colleagues. We’re WordPress, one of the most powerful and extensive communication platforms in the world for people reaching people. How about if we muck up what folks have used for years, make it really hard to do what used to be so easy, just to mess with them, and make them beg for assistance.
Yeah, we can do that. Presto, chango!
WordPress is now an alien dis-communication tool for people who have something to say.

  2. I feel you! I resisted the “Blocks” rollout until they completely eliminated the “Classic” editor. Now, I’m stumbling through and ignoring the other features they boast about. In the back of my mind, I’m grumbling, “I’m paying for Dobson services, not to have you change everything between renewals” like a grumpy old man.
At least you participated in a class to learn a bit more! Good on you for that.

      1. I do know *that* feeling. It’s a shame that happened, and I’m sure you weren’t the only attendee to feel that. Hopefully, there’s a tool to provide feedback so they can improve delivery next time around. I can certainly understand the struggle with “checking for understanding” in a virtual event. There’s no direct verbal feedback, but the presenter also can’t scan the room for body language cues.
Here’s hoping you discover a familiarity with some of the new features as you encounter them through usage. That would be a splendid bonus!

  3. I share your frustration, and hope that you’ll get to grips with WP’s new and very much not improved editor. It does get easier, but is still more time-consuming — and less flexible — than the old one.

  4. Grrrrrr, is my own reaction to the new system! Like Galby68 above, I stayed with Classic until they eliminated it. This new system , by offering so many more possibilties, makes simple blogging harder & more cumbersome because you have to keep weaving your way around all those functions you don’t want, to get to the few that you do. (It’s a common outcome of any simple system made complex in order to permit more functions: complex operations gain, simple use is penalized.)

  5. Stay with it dear. Change is like a snake. Once you accept it is a snake you can deal with it the way you not anyone else determines. I hated being thrust into blocks etc etc. I had previously done a course but these new changes caused stress but little by little I have accepted, tried and only use what is right for me. Try just keeping in touch with a Good Morning ! When you are ready it will be great to see and hear from the perspective of your life. Blessings.

  6. take your time and be patient. you can always go to the “+” sign in the top left of a new post, click on it and you will find “Classic” under “Text”. I use it from time-to-time. just remember to use the “Return/Enter” key to stay in the Classic mode block. you’re a smart lady. You’ll get the hang of it.
