Seeking serenity…
In the wondrous beauty of nature.

In words from the Buddha:
“Train yourself in doing good that lasts and brings happiness.
Cultivate generosity, the life of peace, and a mind of boundless love.”
In the glorious music and words of “Comfort Ye My People” from Handel’s “Messiah. Click below to enjoy one performance among many on the Internet.
Even though many people associate Handel’s Messiah with Christmas, I enjoy listening to it throughout the year especially during the summer when I am less distracted by the holidays.
Actually, it was first performed in Dublin on April 13, 1742 as part of the Easter season. It was a great hit and continues to be so today even if it did migrate to the Christmas season.
Wishing you serenity from beautiful British Columbia!
Beautiful music Lori. Peace, serenity and love back to you.

The other week I was caught in a rainstorm and took refuge in a small, old local church in Canon’s Park, about a mile from where I live. It was amazing. Colourful and painted by the best Italian masters, as was the fashion in the 1700’s, it was such a surprise. Beautiful. Why am I telling you this? It was the church where Handel was organist for a number of years and did some of his composing there. The keyboard that he played on has been preserved and is on display. I was stunned and so very glad for that rainstorm.

What a lovely story and a nice interlude for you! I recall learning that churches were often built like a boat to provide shelter for people from danger of all kinds. Lori

I didn’t know that! Agree it’s too beautiful a piece of music to restrict to Christmas!

Hi Claire, How are things? I have just returned from a 10-day trip to British Columbia. Trying gently to get back in the swing of things. As to Hayden, I wonder how his Messiah migrated from Easter to Christmas. I will have to ask a music scholar. I took a four week class at our church a few years ago about the Biblical history of the piece. Fascinating! I never missed a class even though it was at night, often cold and rainy and I was tired from working all day. Happy Labor Day to you!!

Hello…I agree. Wonderful pieces. I used to play “Ode to Joy” often. My new granddaughter is so much fun even at this sleep, eat, sleep, eat stage.
How are you doing? I hope life is going well! Have a good week.
