Entitlement?

Near my house is a private school with a playing field made of turf.

Neither the field nor the playground are locked up which is nice for the neighborhood. I enjoy walking by and seeing children playing on the outdoor equipment or older kids practicing fall sports.

At the entrance to the playing field is a sign that reads that dogs are prohibited on the field.

This morning as I walked by I was amazed to see a middle-aged woman allowing her two Golden Retrievers to play on the field. One was an adult and one was an older puppy.

I stopped. I was flabbergasted that an adult would ignore the posted sign. I have seen young teenagers flaunting the rules around my neighborhood. But to see this behavior in an adult left me speechless.

I just stood and watched. Finally, she packed up her dogs and left.

This is a big deal to me. I have lived in neighborhoods where the school playgrounds were fenced and locked which prevented the nei ghborhood children from playing on the fields or the equipment.

I would hate to see our neighborhood children deprived of this playground and field.

Sigh…
