The Peace of Wild Things

The Peace of Wild Things

When despair for the world grows in me

and I awake in the night at the least sound

in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be,

I go and lie down where the wood drake

rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.

I come into the peace of wild things

who do not tax their lives with forethought

of grief.  I come into the presence of still water.

And I feel above me the day-blind stars

waiting for their light.  For a time

I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.

It feels to me as though we are living in perilous times.

World peace, economic stability…all seems like pipe dreams.

Hence, this poem by Wendell Berry

Dealing With Stress…

I am under a lot of stress.

My daughter-in-law has stage 4 cancer.

I started a new job recently which is not going well.  I lost my job…

It is cold outside.

A Debt to Pay Gladly

The frost performs its secret ministry, Unhelped by any wind.*

It is so cold today.
I am inside wearing a heavy sweater as I type.

I sip hot coffee and enjoy dark chocolate as I start my day. Continue reading “A Debt to Pay Gladly”

Thoughts on Blogging

What has been will be again

What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun. *

I blog about my experiences.

I reveal my fears.

I share my happiness, my sorrows and my insights.

My concerns are nothing new to mankind.   Continue reading “Thoughts on Blogging”

I Could Have Felt Sorry for Myself…

There was no Christmas tree.

No mistletoe.

No twinkling lights.

Steinbeck on Evil

All the goodness and the heroisms will rise up again, then be cut down again and rise up. It isn’t that the evil thing wins – it never will-but that it doesn’t die. John Steinbeck

A Christmas Tree?

Making everything merry and bright!

I love this clever idea that was part of a book display at the library.

On my very crowded back burner is the plan to cover some of my books in solid colors. I think they will add some serenity to my bookshelves.

A future post someday!

Casanova Strikes Again

In A Nurse & A Purse…Beware !  I wrote about the dangers to women from predatory men.

Just recently, I learned that a grandmother whom we all thought had her act together fell prey to a much younger man.   Continue reading “Casanova Strikes Again”

I lost my job…

They sold the company?

I couldn’t believe it when I heard the news in mid-November.

The company was sold and everything would close on December 31st.

In six weeks, I would be out of a job.

Then to add insult to injury, the company decided to close on December 14th.  Continue reading “I lost my job…”

Pain Point 1

I never took shop.

Until a few years ago I did not know a flat head screwdriver from a phillips screwdriver. Nor did I care.

Now as a widow, I find that knowing a bit more about all of the things that make my house stand up and my car go are worthwhile.

When a problem arise, I do my best research and then at some point I go for it.   Continue reading “Pain Point 1”
