Literary Drinking

Early church service at 8 A.M.

It was good to participate.

I left right after communion as I was emotionally spent.

Still adjusting.  Still coping.  Still grieving.  Just Walkin’

I went to brunch at Beeswing in NE Portland for the third Sunday in a row.

This is a happy place for me.  Lots of people of all ages relaxing and enjoying great food.

I met Jack, a beautiful baby who at four months weighed 18 lbs.  Who knows what he will weigh at his six-month check up?!  His father is a big guy at 6’6″.

Last weekend, there was a large male Goldendoodle named Barksdale that towered above my Ginny, a  female Goldendoodle.

Then, a trip to check out the new Market of Choice in the “Goat Blocks”*  in SE Portland.

Gotta say, I spent more time there than I planned.  It is a beautiful grocery store with a large seating area as well as many local products, speciality items and gifts.

Wandering the aisles of this fantastic grocery store, I happened upon some fun books which led me down the rabbit hole of literary drinking!

With apologies to Harper Lee.

There’s more than one way To Kill A Mockingbird!

“Cleverly written. Should make for a very interesting book night. Worth noting: while most of the recipes contain alcohol, many do not and are family friendly, there are also noshes to accompany your drinks.”   Customer review on http://www.Amazon.com

“Here’s drinking with you, kid

“We know your type. You love the smell of napalm in the morning, you see dead people, and you’re the king (or queen!) of the world. No matter your cinematic stripe, there’s a beverage (or ten) tailor-made just for you.
“A perfect gift for film buffs and a terrific twist on movie nights, Gone with the Gin is the ultimate cocktail book for die-hard silver screen aficionados who prefer to be shaken, not stirred. Included within are 50 delicious drinks—paired with winking commentary on history’s most quotable films—plus an all-star lineup of drinking games, movie-themed munchies, and illustrations throughout.

“So go ahead, make my drink.”     http://www.Amazon.com

Shakespeare, Not Stirred

In Shakespeare, Not Stirred, two professors mix equal parts booze and Bard to help you through your everyday dramas. It’s like having Shakespeare right there in your living room, downing a great drink and putting your crappy day in perspective. So get out your cocktail shaker and lend him your ears.

“Each original cocktail and hors d’oeuvre recipe connects Shakespeare’s characters to life’s daily predicaments:

• Drown your sorrows after a workplace betrayal with Othello’s Green-Eyed Monster
• Distract yourself from domestic drama with Kate’s Shrew-driver or Cleopatra’s Flings in a Blanket
• Recapture your youth with Puck’s Magic ’Shrooms
• Mark a romantic occasion with Beatrice and Benedick’s Much Ado About Frothing
Featuring classic images from the Folger Shakespeare Library (hilariously doctored to feature some hard-partying Shakespearean protagonists) and Mini-Bards you can raid for extra context and commentary, Shakespeare, Not Stirred is a completely intoxicating experience.”      www.amazon.com

End Note

My drinks repetoire is limited to wine, prosecco, dark beer, or a gin and tonic on a hot day.

My favorite drink is sparkling water with a twist of lime.

Regardless, it’s fun to learn about these clever books.

A great idea for a party!

  1. I love books.
When the neighbors go down and I desire to lighten my load(just lately), I fix a double or triple of my fav-o-rite, to start with….
Sometimes the water sparkles, sometimes it is lukewarm, and sometimes I wakeup with it in my lap, but all the time it smells like tap water and lime, with 2 drops of lemon juice.
Do you know how long it has been since I read a book????
Too Long, well it has been…. I haven’t read a book since I opened these sites.
But I am going to post, and go pick one out.
Thank You!!!! Just what the Doctor ordered.

  2. The clever titles made me laugh. I imagine the contents of these books would be both informative but also entertaining. I hope the communion you attended when you focussed ‘above’ strengthened you. Through the valleys of my life by faith I have allowed communion times to minister to my deepest needs. (You do need both Strength and rest as you journey ahead for your family).
