To be at home…

To be at home is to be known.

It is to be loved for who you are.

It is to share a sense of common ground, common interest, pursuits, and values with others who truly care about you.

In community after community I’ve met lonely people who felt homeless even though they had a roof over their heads

This is from Together, The healing power of human connection in a sometimes lonely world by Vivek H. Murthy, MD the 19th Surgeon General of the United States.)

This is one paragraph but I broke it into single sentences so that I could think about the meaning of each statement.

To be known, to be loved and to be in a community where I am truly cared about.

No matter where I live in the world, I need these things for my happiness.

I don’t think these are happenstance.

If  I am not known, not loved, and not living in a supportive community, I have a responsibility to make my life better and the lives of those around me.

Thoughts on a Wednesday morning in the beautiful Pacific Northwest!
