Masking for a friend

Giving thanks…

Mid-morning last Thursday I tested positive for COVID.

Immediately, my healthcare system (Legacy) kicked into gear with amazing results.

A nurse called to talk about treatment.

I opted for the drug Paxlovid from Pfizer.

Next was a call from a pharmacist from the hospital.

We had a lengthy interview to review the side effects.

Then, he placed the prescription at the only drugstore near me that had the medicine.

Within minutes, the drugstore called to tell me the drug was ready for pick up.

My friend picked it up and I started treatment right away.

If you have ever worked with the medical system in the US, you know that it is generally slow with lots of waiting around. Not this time, not with COVID.

Happy news….my symptoms improved within 24 hours. I took three pills twice daily for five days.

The only side effect was a bitter taste in my mouth. Eating fresh fruit helped. It reminded me that my late Husband experienced a bitter taste after chemotherapy. Chilled, canned fruit in heavy syrup, something he would never have eaten before cancer, alleviated the yucky taste.

Today, I feel so much better and am planning to resume my normal activities.

Thank you Legacy Healthcare!

Thank you to the scientists who developed the tests, vaccinations and treatments.

Thus ends my COVID story.

Except…

Our job as a nation is to continue to send COVID tests, vaccinations and treatments to nations not as fortunate as we are.

Take your best shot!

This brought a smile!

Takes my mind off other “shots” such as covid vaccines, boosters, flu shots…

My doctor expressed his frustration the other day with his patients who would not get their covid shots.

A local theatre requires proof of vaccination for entry.

So much controversy.

Maybe I will try a shot of whiskey after all!

Escape…

I want to share these sweet little eggs.

I took this photo in a garden shop.

The eggs are fake. Still, they evoke a sense of tenderness and yearning in me.

I want to live in a little cottage in a beautiful place where life is peaceful.

With little nests, butterflies and fragrant flowers….

It’s been a hard week.

Actually, a hard year or so.

This pandemic drags on.

I am upset that my friends are losing their jobs, moving away.

And of course, there are the countless deaths.

Oregon hospitals are bringing in temporary morgues (KGW8 9/3/2021)

Idaho morgues are running out of space. (Washington Post 9/25/2021 issue)

I am weary.

“And like one lost in a thorny wood,

That rents the thorns and is rent with the thorns,

Seeking a way and straying from the way;

Not knowing how to find the open air,

But toiling desperately to find it out.”

~~Gloucester (Henry VI Part 3, Act III scene ii) Shakespeare

Thursday’s Child

Thursday is the day I was born, eons ago in a galaxy far, far away.

Not really eons ago and not really in a galaxy far, far away. Continue reading “Thursday’s Child”

Ring the bells

Forget your perfect offering,

There’s a crack in everything,

That’s how the light gets in.”

Christmas Day 2020

It is cold and raining in Portland tonight.

The end of a long and sweet day.

I was not sure how the day would be.  I just wanted to get through it.  Continue reading “Christmas Day 2020”

We’re doing our part

I have asthma.  Breathing can be a problem for me.

I don’t like wearing a mask.  I miss  hugging my friends and family.

Yet, I don’t want to get COVID 19 nor do I want to transmit COVID 19.

The decision is simple.

I am an adult.  I wear a mask.  I stay 6 feet away from others.

What’s so hard about that?

Brunch in the time of pandemic

What is better than a lazy brunch? *

My special friend makes all my favorites from creamy scrambled eggs, crisp bacon  to lox and bagels.  There are healthy servings of roasted or grilled vegetables, fresh fruit and to top it off, a chocolate croissant sometimes served with ice cream!  Needless to say, it is my main meal of the day.

Fresh flowers, a wonderful view and soft music playing.

Dining with my friend makes me slow down and count my blessings.

Even in the time COVID 19.

Especially in the time of COVID 19.

Peace,

Lori

*Not having to prepare or clean up afterwards is the icing on the cake!  (I do have food on my brain!)
