Portland had a bit of snow over the weekend.
This morning we awoke to ice and more snow.
Unlike our hardy cousins in the Midwest or Canada, we bundle up and stay indoors at the mention of icy weather.

Even though I live in Oregon, Wisconsin Public Radio (WPR) is one of my favorite radio stations. Thanks to the Internet, I stream WPR programs daily.

I looked twice when I saw the date. May 5, 2034.
This was the maturity date for a bond.

In many ways, 2017 was the best of times for me.
Then in the last eight months, it was the worst of times bringing terrible grief.
Now on the last day of 2017, I am looking forward with guarded optimism to 2018.


Today is my birthday which puts me in a philosophical frame of mind.
I found myself thinking about the tumultuous year that flew by.
