A simple breakfast

I awake early to a dark and cold house.

Downstairs, I flip the switch on the gas fireplace in my living room. I am rewarded with heat and light.

I keep the blinds closed.  There is nothing inspiring about looking out into the dark. Continue reading “A simple breakfast”

We join spokes together in a wheel

~Foggy Lake Photo by Gabriela Palai/Pexel.com~

This is what I am thinking about this morning as I sit by the fireplace.

“We join spokes together in a wheel,
but it is the center hole
that makes the wagon move.

We shape clay into a pot,
but it is the emptiness inside
that holds whatever we want.

We hammer wood for a house,
but it is the inner space
that makes it livable.

We work with being,
but non-being is what we use.”

Loving an old dog…

I slept in on the first day of the New Year.

That is, until 6:30.

Usually I am up by 5:30 to read and relax by the fire on wintry days.

I headed downstairs to start my day.  I turned on the gas fireplace.

As I was settling in with my book and coffee I realized my dog Ginny was missing. Continue reading “Loving an old dog…”

Little Girl in Distress

As I was walking out the door this morning for an 8:30 appointment, my phone rang.

It was my 3-year old granddaughter calling for a video chat.

Of course I took the call. I was prepared to be late or miss my appointment.

A minute later her sweet little face popped up on my screen. Continue reading “Little Girl in Distress”

Seeing this parked car made me laugh out loud.

I could see me parking over the line with a car of this length.

Parallel parking is not a preferred activity especially on a busy street in downtown Portland!

I especially hate it when lots of people are watching me.

“Woman driver”  I can hear them muttering.  Continue reading “Parking fail but not mine!”

Lox & Bagel

The bagels at Spielman Bagels are delicious.

There’s nothing like lox, a bagel and cream cheese with a side of capers and tomato slices.

This morning, I enjoyed my nosh with a strong cup of coffee.  Love the artwork!

Heresy

To  think that I used to buy bagels from the grocery store, toast them and eat them with cream cheese and jelly.

Now that I have discovered real bagels, there is no turning back.

I could eat them everyday!

Thank you Spielman Bagels!
