I have an acquaintance whose hobby is collecting “friends”.
She is warm and friendly. She has amusing conversations.
She flutters from one friend to another.
She undoubtedly has hundreds of Facebook friends.
She finds no lasting joy in friendship, only the excitement of making a new friend.
Or, rather, making an acquaintance.
Portland is a city of diversity.
I see people of different races and different religions wherever I go.
The children are all the same – playing in the parks and stopping to pet Ginny.
The adults welcome me into their homes or their businesses with courtesy and respect.
The Pacific Northwest is one of the most beautiful places in the world.
I am so lucky to live here especially in the summer.
The days are so long now. It is a gift to enjoy the light.
Especially knowing that the darkness of winter is around the corner.
The devil is one of my oldest companions.
When I was a lazy child my Mother would scold me,
“The devil finds work for idle hands!”
So, I dutifully skulked off to my room or anywhere out of her sight.

My faith has diminished and grown over the years as I deal with life’s ups and downs.
My family, while not TV family perfect, are there for me.
My friends, although scattered across the world, are there for me.
